Lee: Take us back 10 years. In regards to the music what were you up to? So that people know what you're involved with today, give us a glance into your resume and tell us about the new project.

Oh No: 10 years ago I was a junior in high school getting real high. After school I had to walk to my mom and pops shop and do all the clean up. After that I would head to the studio in Ventura and start making music. Romes would come thru, my man Duce and all kinds of rappers in the ox. I would slang beats to them using my brothers records. Gettin extra doe for games and shit.

I done work with Wildchild, Declaime, Kaliwild, LMNO, Kazi, Supernatural, Murs, Medaphoar, Frank N' Dank, Approach, Kombo, AG, Wise Intelligent, and more. And recently I just dropped The Disrupt on Stones Throw Records, go get it and be disrupted!

L: Tell us about a moment in time that had a heavy impact on you musically or that you consider memorable.

O: Madlib was on tour with the Liks so my parents told me were going to upgrade the studio , so I got to pick the equipment. I picked just about everything and I put that studio together. Tables, shelves, adat, 16 track tascam, dat machine, computers, korg keys to. I was only 15 going on 16.

L: Tell us about the title of this album, The Disrupt. How does the title "The Disrupt" apply in regards to its significance as your first release?

O: The title "Disrupt" means to throw into confusion or disorder. It is the anticipated album that you didn't really know about. And when you do its like where's this been at? The Disrupt is me. Thats my alias Oh No the Disrupt. Oh No the MC | Disrupt the producer (Disruption Productions).

L: Critic wise, how do you view production these days in terms of the way you see people putting together their sounds? Do you believe in any sort of guidelines or rules to how a Hip Hop producer creates their music?

O: I like creative music. Unexpected type shit and banging. Nothing wrong with flippin' what you got into something tight. I used to go by some rules like not using break beats or the no keyboards all samples and shit. But at the end of the day I'm just trying to make good original music. So fuck it. Digital Underground said it best-dowhatchulike.

L: What are your thoughts on sampling? How much of The Disrupt was sampled? Two that really stand out to me is "Move" and "The Ride." Could you speak on the production/sampling of those two songs and how the lyrical content came together?

O: I love sampling. I love music, I like when you stream samples together and make something that sounds different. Majority of The Disrupt is samples, and keyboards to assist. My man Dilla hooked up "Move". When I heard that I thought of some Castlevania smash anything moving. And "The Ride" was made off some bomb kush weed. I was clowning making that beat. So I figured I would clown on it as an introduction to me and where we were at on a day to day basis.

L: I loved "Every Section", humanity without no sanity equals fatalities even the governments spending chips to cover the casualties, but you don't see that, they twist it up in the media. What brought that track together?

O: Madlib is the man with that beat. That beat was just screaming to me about the world. I felt I had to talk about sections in the world that people need to look at and my homeboy Cornbread from Kaliwild fit perfect to it to make the song complete.

L: Which tracks were released as singles? What power did they hold as singles?

O: The first single was "The Ride". That single is a follow up to make noise. The power was to put out something new and creative. "The Ride" is just one of them you love or hate. Creative beats on some day to day shit.

The second single is "Move" and "Move Pt. 2" produced by Dilla featuring Rocc and Dilla. This had to be the second single. I wanted Dilla on the LP but there wasn't enough time so we put a Pt. 2 exclusive on it. Also a UK only single with "Move" and "I'm Ya Aggin (Remix)" from the upcoming Oh No and Galt MacDermot project.
