| Lee: There are a number of artists featured on this album; Wildseed, Sons of Light, Imani Uzuri, Melaphyre and the list goes on. How did you come around to deciding who you would want to have featured on this album? To me, the album hits me more as a compilation with an emphasis on the creativity behind the sounds you are able to put together. Would you agree that it is a compilation? If so, what is it a compilation of? Tariq L: In the eyes of business it is a compilation, I don't want to call my album a compilation personally, this is an International showcase of my styles of production to present to the world that I'm coming. This is only the first volume. Trust me! Many more 2 come. I got a question concerning Hip Hip music in general. Describe the Hip Hop culture as you see it in 2004. What does Beatz in My Lifetime bring to the table that is different (or similar) to what other artists are doing? Beatz in My Lifetime brings good new air to the table, its not your average album. Everyone will tell you that, you can't front! It's hip hop to the fullest, that's because of who I am you know! This album brings that innovative side in the game of hip hop, overstand? If everyone in the world stopped everything they were doing to hear a track from Beatz in My Lifetime which track would you play for them? Why? All of them, that's why we made it! Ha! HA! One of the things that I include on the website is the importance of literature. Do you get the chance to keep up on the non-fiction or fiction titles these days? If so, what books or books have you read? Well I am reading a book called "The Art of War". I'm going to speak for myself here. Without the means provided by the school I attend (internet), it is very difficult to get any information as to what is going on out there in terms of Hip Hop releases such as your project, Beatz in My Lifetime. What do you feel needs to change in order for artists to be able to establish a stronger influence in the benefit of mass media? MONEY is the main issue man. Without investment, how can u do anything? Are there any videos or plans to put together a video for Beatz in My Lifetime Vol. 1? If not, then if you had the means to put a video together, which song from Beatz in My Lifetime Vol. 1 would you like to incorporate into a video? Well, the first video, will be called Beatz in My Lifetime, the actual title track which is not on the album, we are in production now for the video, it's all me spitting and doing live beat shows ya heard? Expect to see it played on mtv2. Click here for Page 3 of the Tariq L Interview |
